So Tired, and Other Things

This not sleeping has got to end, and end soon. I’m so fucking tired. I’ve tried just about everything, but no matter what I do, I only sleep for about 3 hours. I get up, watch some TV, drink some coffee, take a shower, and then, and only then, I can take about an hour nap.
Anyway… Yesterday was another rainy day making a 3 day rain total of 3.8″ of rain here at the house. Around 10:00 AM UPS came and the driver said that Houghton was starting to flood again, so knowing I needed to go to the dreaded Walmart, I headed out before the weather got any worse. Before even getting to the main road, I crossed over Menge Creek, and it was over flowing it’s banks, as was the next unnamed creek. I got to the main road, US-41, and the waves were crashing onto the road with logs and such right at the edge of the road. The drive all the way to Chassell was a slow one with heavy, heavy rain. Just past Chassell, there were police with their flashers on marking an area where water was flowing over the road and a front-end loader was pushing dirt and rocks off the road. About 2 miles further, the same thing. Once in Houghton it didn’t look too bad until I saw one of the downtown road that was just repaired a week ago starting to wash away, again. I did my shopping and headed for home. US-41 was getting worse in those same two spots with MDOT at the seen. The waves seemed to have calmed down a bit where they were crashing onto the road earlier. Thankfully the heavy rain didn’t start back up as was forecast, so things shouldn’t be too bad.
One more thing… the pellet stove. I got a quote for 1 ton of hardwood pellets delivered for $235.85, that’s $4.00 per 40lb bag (50 total bags) plus delivery charge and tax. That seems pretty good to me and under the cost of what I’ve read. Something else I never thought of about using a pellet stove, they are worthless if the power goes out. The damn things need power in order to work. I found this out because later yesterday we lost power twice.

Update… I just ordered 2 tons of hard wood pellets. That’s 100 40# bags. They will be delivering it today at 2:00 PM. Pretty fast service.
According to the stove manual, one 40# bag should last 24 hours burning at the middle setting (5). Now, that’s over 3 months worth of pellets burning 24/7. I have no plans to burn that much, and definitely not at night, so I think this could last me through most the winter, we shall see though.

Added a photo looking out toward the back of the property. The gazebo is in the center of a circle of birch trees.

Not Feeling It

Not sure what’s up, but I can’t seem to get anything done today. I’m just feeling sad with too much running through my head. I’m on the edge of crying. Maybe because this house is so dark inside, the paint is all a dark brown. I’d like to brighten it up, but being color blind I have no clue. I plan on getting some lighter colored curtains, but I still haven’t found one of my tape measures to measure the window openings.
Word on Grizwald… He went outside earlier to pee and poop, so that’s good. He still hasn’t eaten anything, and I haven’t seen him even drink any water.

Grizwald

Giz isn’t doing well today. He shit in his bed earlier and now he wont get up to eat, or go outside. He’s been doing okay since we moved here, walking around outside, able to go down and back up the 4 steps off the front deck. Today he just seems lethargic, not wanting to move at all. I know what I need to do, but I need someone to talk to.

Getting Tired Of…

Not sleeping! Again and again and again, I’m awake at about 1:30 AM and can’t get back to sleep. The only way I get more sleep is if I get up, drink some coffee, take a shower and then lay down for a nap.
Today I’m back to work after taking last week off for the moving. I still have lots and lots of unpacking to do, and arranging of things. Looks like this week will be a good week to do everything indoors as the forecast is for rain, and heavy rain at that, through Wednesday.
Taking last week off from work eat up some of my PTO that I need to use before I lose it at the end of the year. I still have 10 days to use, so if the weather clears up a bit by the end of the week, I might take Friday off to get some more photos of the Autumn colors.
Here are a few of the photos I took yesterday.

Plans For Today

Once again I was awake a little after 1:00 AM. :/ My back was, and still is, killing me from moving all the heavy stuff yesterday.
Looks like today might be the only dry day for quite a while, cloudy, but no rain. Highs should be in the mid to upper 40s.
With that being said, I need to get all the empty boxes out to the quonset today, along with getting a couple things into the house from the quonset. One reason the house looks so full is due to having so many empty boxes stacked up. Also, while I’m out getting the drier cord, I think I’ll take a drive up to Big Eirk’s Bridge on the Huron River to get some photos of the autumn colors while I can. I thought of, and would like to, drive up into the Keweenaw, but I just don’t have the time. Either way, it will be nice to get out and about for a bit, then I can get back to work I guess.

Continued…

Well I did end up going out to Big Erick’s Bridge today, right after picking up the dryer cord. I’ll post photos in another post.
Got rid of quite a bit of clutter by taking the empty boxes out to the quonset. Been doing laundry ever since I got back and the power cord was put on. I also got the bird feeders setup and filled, the birds make me happy. Oh, and I made chili, first time using this stove. The works really nice, but one thing, there isn’t a simmer setting on any of the burners. Anyway, I had chili and a salad for dinner.

It’s Done!

The storage unit is empty and everything is either in the house or quonset. Again though, my body is just plain beat up. The washer is running now with it’s first of many loads, but the drier need a different power cord. The drier cord was three pronged for older homes, I need to get a four prong tomorrow, the hardware store closed at 3:00 PM and I got there at 3:20 PM. Bummer!
Now comes the hardest part, more unpacking and arranging of things. It’s kind of tight trying to fit stuff, so we shall see.
The weather held out for the loading and unloading of the truck, though on the way into Houghton to return the truck it was a very heavy mist and felt cold.

Sleep…

I guess the title should say “No Sleep” or “Can’t Sleep”. Not sure what’s up, but I just can’t sleep. I feel super tired so I go to bed only to lay there tossing and turning until I finally give up, get up and make coffee. After a couple cups of coffee and a couple hours, I’m able to sit back in a chair and take a nap, but that’s about all I seem to be able to get. Maybe it’s due to all the stuff running through my head about the things I need or want to do with the house but have no-one to talk to about it…I don’t know. I’m trying to remember when the last time I got a good night’s sleep, but I really can’t remember, I do know it’s been close to, or over, two months.
Ha, I suddenly ran out of thoughts…

Full Day of Unpacking

A cool start to the day at 34° with a rain and snow mix. With my weather station up I can now see what the accurate temp is. It’s suppose to rain most the day, letting up this afternoon, but still wet. So, I’ll be spending most all the day unpacking and getting stuff sorted. I also need to get the living room in order before we haul the rest of my stuff in from storage tomorrow. There are a number of large items coming in tomorrow, so I need to figure out where it’s going to go, though I’m sure I’ll be changing it around later.
One more thing… I need to find one of my tape measures so I can get the size of these windows. The ex-owners had some cheap ass pull-down blinds that I’ve already removed and I want to replace them with curtains.
