To-dos Around The House

Got a few things done today, but didn’t work all that hard, sort of a relaxing day really. I am planning to take tomorrow off to get out and into the woods.
One thing that has bugged me for quite some time is where a burn barrel was. It was right out on the main side lawn and stuck out like a sore thumb. So, I moved it…at last.
I’ll update this post with more lilac photos.

Yard without a burn barrel

Forget-me-not

I have no idea what these are. They have a stem sort of like snake grass, but smooth it’s whole length and the flower is similar to clover. The leaf is similar to the stem.
Update – These are wild Chives. Time for a baked potato! 🙂

Apple Orchard

Some random photos of the Apple Orchard after it has been mowed. The photos really don’t show how great it looks, almost like a park. As you can see though, many of the trees are not blooming this year, and I have no idea why. I would love to trim a few of them (they all need it), but it’s one hell of a lot of work, and I just don’t know how long I’ll be here. 🙁

Only 3:00 PM And It’s A Productive Day

Yes, that’s right, it’s still early in the day and most my to-do list is done.
Following is my list:
√ Spray dogs with flee and tick stuff
√ Spray around yard with tick killer
√ Fix front storm door so it shuts correctly
√ Uncover morning glories
√ Mow  areas I want larger and through Blackberry patch
√ Clean Hummingbird feeders
√ Fix outdoor water tap
√ Go buy clamp for the water tap
√ Get tank of propane for grill
√ Take barn ramp apart and pitch it
List of what still needs going:
Clean up remaining leaves
Fix cam that’s on the barn. It’s not working at the moment
Plant the rest of plants outside. Waiting until tomorrow because we might have frost tonight
Wash windows. I still might do some of them today

So anyway, was pretty productive for being so early in the day. Now it’s time to get something to eat.

Another Day of Yard Work

Another day of yard work today. As much as I would like to go out on the two-tracks and waterfalls, I need to get things done around here, that and I don’t have the money.
Today I hope to get the remainder of the leaves and crap picked up, and get my Lupine transplanted.
Yesterday I widened the mowing area by about 50 feet. This is an area that I’ve wanted to get mowed down for some time now, but just haven’t. There’s some really tall grasses that grow in part of the area, over six feet tall.
Also, found the first tick of the season crawling on me. I hate those fuckers! I guess it’s time to put the Deet on before going out in the thicker stuff.
Oh yes, one more thing I need to get done today… Spray the barn with vinegar to help get rid of the smell and to help keep squirrels out.

Morning Glories Are Planted

Yes they are, the morning glories are in the Earth. They look a little stressed, but hopefully they’ll pull through, and not get frosted. I still have Moon glories to be planted, but they’re doing OK in their little pots…so far. Another plant I have to get in the ground are Lupine. They will go along the garage behind all the seeds I planted.
I got some raking done in the back yard, but it was just too damn hot to do much. Our high temp for today was 83°F and windy with winds almost to 30MPH.

Garden Work III

Done, well mostly anyway. Today I dug up the remaining few chunks of sod, raked it out and put in seed. The seed didn’t go as far as I thought, so I ordered more and will be here tomorrow. I also put up the netting for the Morning Glories that will be along the brick wall. From a short distance, the netting can’t be seen with the exception of a little where it covers the windows.

Garden Work II

Almost there, almost. I only have a few squares of sod to go, I just couldn’t finish it today, though I did get the willows transplanted. I’m saving the sod strips and squares for another project. I plan, hopefully, put them down outside the back door where all there is some gravel and stuff, though I have to wait for that until the snow melts back there, not much sun.
Anyway, this project should be done tomorrow, including seeding of the wildflowers.

Garden Work

I’ve been digging, digging a lot. I’m in the process of digging up sod in a smallish area next to the garage. I hate having to pull out the push mower just for this one area, so I’m removing the sod and going to plant wildflower seeds. That has been a hard enough job, but I also have to move three pussy willow plants that keep getting eaten by deer, rabbits and they get hammered by the snow sliding off the roof. So, to move those willows to where I want them, I needed to remove two Rose bushes, I don’t care for them in that location and there is already a rose hedge. Removing the roses was a real trick, I had to use a tow strap and the lawn tractor to pull the fuckers out.
Anyway, I have a little more that half the sod dug up and two of the willows (not sure yet where to place the third one) transplanted. I’m fucking beat!
