Volcanic Haze

Not much going on the moment besides work and Redoubt Volcano. We’ve had 2 days without a full eruption, though lots of steam, gas and ash spewing.

From AVO:
Continuous emissions of steam, volcanic gases, and ash continue at Redoubt Volcano as observed by two field crews and webcam. The Redoubt Hut web camera images show the direction of the plume changing depending on variable winds. These emissions have been generally been at low altitudes (less than 15,000 feet above sea level), but occasionally rise as high as 25,000 feet above sea level.

Satellite images from this morning show a broad layer of volcanic haze extending east of the volcano over the Kenai Peninsula, the Anchorage Bowl, and the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. Satellite images from last night show a thermal anomaly at the vent and are possibly due to the extrusion of a lava dome in the summit crater.

Seismicity consists of volcanic tremor and occasional discrete earthquakes.

There was a small explosion at Redout at 16:07 AKDT (00:07 UTC). There was a pilot report that put the ash cloud to 25,000 ft.

At this time, continuous low level emissions of steam, volcanic gases, and ash continue at Redoubt Volcano. Seismicity consists of volcanic tremor and occasional discrete earthquakes.

This was taken directly into the sun. What you see mainly is the haze.
