Slate Entry

Yesterday I start making a slate entry to the front deck. I found a good size pile of slate on the property, so that’s what I’m using. The sand I’m using is from out back and is a mixure of sand and clay, so once settled it should be pretty stable.

New Lawnmower

Bought a new Cub Cadet walk-behind mower today, one with the “MySpeed Drive Control”. Best walk-behind mower I’ve used. The MySpeed Drive Control really does work. It’s fucking amazing! I’ll be doing a lot of walking with this mower this summer, as I can’t get a lawn tractor until much later.

I also got a couple wildflower plots seeded today. I should have done it a week or so ago, about a month before our last freeze, but oh well, I’m sure they’ll be fine. More plots this weekend to seed.

Snow Day

Another snow day off from work, and it’s a good thing as I got a foot of snow early this morning and had to get it cleaned up. First thing this morning I measured the snow we got over night and it was on 3 inches, then it started to dump. By noon we had some sunshine. I also had to get up on the roof again because there was another leak. I could hear it dripping behind the shower. I found the spot and cleared it up. Getting really tired of this leak shit.
Also early this morning I sent off an email to the ex-owner stating that I will not be paying them any money they think I owe them. We both signed the same purchase agreement that stated there is a seller credit, that’s what they feel I should pay back. Well, not after all the problems I’ve found with the house. No. Fucking. Way.
Around noon I headed into Houghton for groceries. Houghton didn’t get hardly any snow last night. Quite surprising.
Tomorrow will be a work day around the house to try and take care of some more of the ice on the roof. Then Sunday I plan to get out. I really need it!

To-dos Around The House

Got a few things done today, but didn’t work all that hard, sort of a relaxing day really. I am planning to take tomorrow off to get out and into the woods.
One thing that has bugged me for quite some time is where a burn barrel was. It was right out on the main side lawn and stuck out like a sore thumb. So, I moved it…at last.
I’ll update this post with more lilac photos.

Yard without a burn barrel

Forget-me-not

I have no idea what these are. They have a stem sort of like snake grass, but smooth it’s whole length and the flower is similar to clover. The leaf is similar to the stem.
Update – These are wild Chives. Time for a baked potato! 🙂

Apple Orchard

Some random photos of the Apple Orchard after it has been mowed. The photos really don’t show how great it looks, almost like a park. As you can see though, many of the trees are not blooming this year, and I have no idea why. I would love to trim a few of them (they all need it), but it’s one hell of a lot of work, and I just don’t know how long I’ll be here. 🙁

Only 3:00 PM And It’s A Productive Day

Yes, that’s right, it’s still early in the day and most my to-do list is done.
Following is my list:
√ Spray dogs with flee and tick stuff
√ Spray around yard with tick killer
√ Fix front storm door so it shuts correctly
√ Uncover morning glories
√ Mow  areas I want larger and through Blackberry patch
√ Clean Hummingbird feeders
√ Fix outdoor water tap
√ Go buy clamp for the water tap
√ Get tank of propane for grill
√ Take barn ramp apart and pitch it
List of what still needs going:
Clean up remaining leaves
Fix cam that’s on the barn. It’s not working at the moment
Plant the rest of plants outside. Waiting until tomorrow because we might have frost tonight
Wash windows. I still might do some of them today

So anyway, was pretty productive for being so early in the day. Now it’s time to get something to eat.

Another Day of Yard Work

Another day of yard work today. As much as I would like to go out on the two-tracks and waterfalls, I need to get things done around here, that and I don’t have the money.
Today I hope to get the remainder of the leaves and crap picked up, and get my Lupine transplanted.
Yesterday I widened the mowing area by about 50 feet. This is an area that I’ve wanted to get mowed down for some time now, but just haven’t. There’s some really tall grasses that grow in part of the area, over six feet tall.
Also, found the first tick of the season crawling on me. I hate those fuckers! I guess it’s time to put the Deet on before going out in the thicker stuff.
Oh yes, one more thing I need to get done today… Spray the barn with vinegar to help get rid of the smell and to help keep squirrels out.

Morning Glories Are Planted

Yes they are, the morning glories are in the Earth. They look a little stressed, but hopefully they’ll pull through, and not get frosted. I still have Moon glories to be planted, but they’re doing OK in their little pots…so far. Another plant I have to get in the ground are Lupine. They will go along the garage behind all the seeds I planted.
I got some raking done in the back yard, but it was just too damn hot to do much. Our high temp for today was 83°F and windy with winds almost to 30MPH.
