Bear

So I’m up super early due to a bad back ache, anyway… I was just looking at my cams and there walks a bear around the back of the house. Knowing what direction it was walking, I turned on the front light and went outside, and sure enough there it was. I then pointed my flashlight at him/her as he was looking at me and told him to go away. Off he ran.
I watched him walk off in the same direction he came on my cam, but couldn’t trigger it quick enough to get a video.
That was fun.

Saturday and Sunday

I did end up going for a little drive Saturday, it was too damn hot to stay home. Eli has been having a hard time with the heat, panting and panting, and it seems he’s missing Griz quite a bit, so I thought getting him in the cool car would help a little. We headed out Herman Nestoria Rd, again, thinking I might see some more wildflowers. I did see some flowers, but the deer and horse flies were horrendous, so I couldn’t get out to take any photos. After coming out to the highway I turned toward home, but saw a two-track to the left and took it. After driving for a little bit, and after passing a nice large pond, I came across another old concrete bridge. The bridge crosses the Tioga River. When I first saw the bridge I couldn’t get out due to the flies again, but once on the bridge they let up a little, so I hopped out with enough time to take a couple photos of the river. We continued on down the road, but it ended shortly due to a large pond/swamp that had swallowed up the trail. Turned around and headed for home.
I want to go back to this area once the bugs have died off.
Sunday I didn’t due much of anything, with the exception of some work on a step leading up the front deck. This one step has bugged the shit out of me because one of the boards is raised higher than the board next to it, and could be a trip hazard. Well, I started out just looking at it to see what was wrong with it, big mistake, now I had to fix it. Hard to explain how fucked up it was, but I got it done and it’s now in a proper placement.
Later in the day I got some pretty cool photos of a White-spotted Sawyer Beetle that was crawling on the deck.

Bear Trashing

Woke up this morning to find that a bear had come through and trashed my bird feeders. The poles got bent right to the ground, but I was able to get them back into shape. All but one feeder are in good shape, though I was able to get it back in working order. Looks like this was a pretty big bear by the size of the tracks. The one foot print on the deck step is almost 6 inches (the boards are 6 inches wide).

Day of Doing Little Things

I had plans to go out somewhere today, but decided to stay home and get a few things done. It was a beautiful day with a high temp of 75°F with bright clear skies.
First thing I did was to get my new (free directly from Reo-link) camera setup and mounted.
I then dug into some garbage bags that I really screwed up on this past winter. I had about 8 bags of garbage set outside ready to be taken to the garbage truck this winter (they were sitting out on some snow), but then the the first of our two largest snowstorms hit and I started to shovel the roof, well, I forgot about the garbage bags sitting out just a little ways from the roof eves. So, while I was pushing the snow off the roof it started to bury the bags, DAMMIT. Not much I could do about it now. Then came another snowstorm only about a week later and I had to clear the roof again, and again a lot of snow fell on the already buried garbage bags, DAMMIT. Anyway, now that most the snow has melted with the exception of where it’s really piled up (where the bags are), enough of the snow has melted for me to get to some of the bags, the rest will have to wait for a few more days, or a week.
The dogs and I sat out on the front deck for a while and watched the birds. Birds, they have arrived. 🙂 For the longest time I thought all I would have around here were chickadees and some nuthatches. Well a bunch came today. Now I have Gold Finches, Purple Finches, a couple different sparrows, and Female Evening Grosbeaks.
I did little bits of other stuff around, but mostly enjoyed sitting out with the dogs on the deck watching and taking photos of the birds.
I think I got a little sunburned.

Double Window

Finally got the double window framed in today. The demo on this window was a bitch, layers and layers of crap wood with a bazillion nails. Then after that I found that the window frame wasn’t square. So, just about every piece of wood I put up had to be custom cut, inside the frame and out.

Also, dinner time for the Deer with a little fist to cuffs.

Busy at Work

I’ve been quite busy at work lately. I’ve been installing and setting up a new Accounting server and getting all their software configured. Tomorrow we go live on the new server. As I type this, I’m backing up all the databases and moving the backups to the new server, then restore them. At that point, I’m mostly done. Tomorrow morning the guys in the office get to go around and make sure all the software is getting installed on the workstations correctly.

I’m looking forward to the warmer weather that’s on the way starting tomorrow. Melt some of this neck deep snow I have around here.

This evening the beasties were quite hungry…

I have another cam up and running facing off to the side/back of the house. It’s always quite busy out there.
