Damn It’s Nice…Spring?

So, I had a chance to get out with the dogs today. What a wonderful spring day it was, we hit 56 F here at the house, but I swear it was warmer then that. Maybe it was the hiking, the Alaskan sun, I don’t know, but it was damn warm. One of those days I wished I would have brought a camp chair with me, just to soak up the sun.

Anyway, the day couldn’t be much better, only if Jan could have been with me and the dogs. Now That would have made the day perfect.

I knew the weather was going to be good today, so I thought I would hike up the Broderbund Butte, from the east side, the side I have never climbed before, nor have I been up here in the winter. Muddy and Icy, those are the words for the first third of the climb. The rest of the climb was just fine, some bits of mud, but really mostly OK. Once up at the top the views were wonderful.

After spending some time on The Butte, we headed for a little hike in the woods near McRoberts Creek, near Jim Lake. Only spent a little over an hour in the woods, I needed to go grocery shopping yet and get home.

All in all, it was a really nice day out, and a much needed day out.

On to da photos.

Sure Feels Like Spring

Yes it does! With the longer days, about 13 1/2 hours of daylight, the sunny skies and the warm temps, it really does feel and look like spring. All that, and with the first day of spring this coming Saturday, I have Spring Fever. Hopefully I’ll be able to get out and explore a bit in the coming days.

In the mean time, here are some photos from the last couple weeks.

Frosty Root Beer and Moose

Well, not together, the Moose and root beer that is.

First about Frosty Root Beer. In my opinion one of, if not the best root beer around. Now here’s the thing. I haven’t seen Frosty in years back in Michigan. I would drive by all these little old party store with the Frosty Root Beer sign outside, stop in and ask if they had any. No was always the answer. Frosty was nowhere to be found. Now I’m in Alaska with a nice cold Frosty Root Beer in my hands. Here’s the odd thing about all this, Frosty in bottled in Detroit Michigan! I also have some other yummy soda’s in my fridge. Soda from my childhood like Apple Beer, Cheerwine, and now Frosty. Yum!

Our yard moose, young bull, is back for another romp with Eli, one of our dogs. He comes by, stays for a few days, then off again until next week.

Short Outing

A snowy, windy day, but still a good day to get out of the house with the dogs. We headed over to Palmer because I knew most the wind would be blocked by the mountains, and it was.

Working in Palmer

Yesterday I was working in Palmer, nice change. I really do like it over there, much nicer than Wasilla. It was cloudy almost all day ‘cept during one of my breaks, that’s when I took theses 2 photos from the parking lot.
