When you think about it, it really is quite an amazing racing, 1000 miles on dog sled, let alone doing it 3 years in a row. Lance also seems like a good guy and really cares for his dogs. Always a plus in a winner.

Other news; work has been going well, though a bit slow until next week when all hell should break loose. Then the ride will begin for the next 8 months. We have a 3 day weekend this week due to being so far ahead of schedule, that will probably change next week also.

I found out this past Friday that a friend from Harbor Springs and LTBB will be coming to AK in June for a visit. That should be cool.

Redoubt alert status raised after explosion

UPGRADED: Explosion is the largest of its current unrest.

Mount Redoubt released a plume of steam and ash that rose about three miles above sea level Sunday afternoon, and geologists at the Alaska Volcano Observatory immediately upgraded volcano’s aviation color code status to orange and its alert status to “watch.”

We are still waiting for, the inevitable it seems, the eruption of Mt. Redoubt.

An article from Alaska Daily News (ADN)

Following is part of a statement, and link, from the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO)

“The current activity at Redoubt could be precursory to an eruption, perhaps within days. A further increase in seismicity is expected to accompany an eruption. Staff are currently monitoring the volcano 24 hours a day.”

Some local news…

Jan. 3, 8 p.m., Vine Rd. near Aeronautical Ave.: Larissa O. Phillips, 21, Wasilla, northbound in her 1995 Saturn LS when she hit a moose. A passenger had minor cuts from broken glass. Damage: $1,500. The moose appears to have survived.

There was a bomb threat at Wasilla High School today. There’s good and bad news going along with this. First the good, because it’s the shortest part.

The Good:
The school system has a call system in place where they call and email the parents incase of any happenings, like closings, bombs and such. That’s the good news.

The Bad:
From what we heard on the scanner and read on line, this was one fucked up lock down and evacuation. Some wonder why there was even school today, the first letter was found last night. then there are those that wonder why the students were kept in thier classrooms instead of getting them out of the building. On the scanner it reallys sounded as if the police, or who ever, didn’t know what the fuck was going on. They didn’t know where or when the kids were boarding the busses. They didn’t know where the busses were taking the kids. They didn’t know when or if the kids were getting a bus trip home, it turns out NO. The kids were sent out without getting thier coats and suff, well, that’s just fucking stupid, it’s been well below zero for sometime now, and sending them out without coats is completely irresponsible. It really did seem as though the right hand didn’t know what the left was doing, at least from what I heard on the scanner.

Ya know, I really can’t help but think this wouldn’t have happened if Palin, the no longer liked by many locals governor, wouldn’t have put her face in the national public seen. People know that anything that happens in Wasilla will be on the national news, in time. And you can thank her for that. She doesn’t do shit for this state since her vice-pres run. I use to like her, no longer.

One more thing. If it wasn’t for Bush (The Speaking Chimp, of is that chump) inciting terror on all those that don’t believe as him, this may have been just pushed off as just another school prank.

No matter what, all is good now.

Saw this guy peckin’ on a dead moose with a bunch of ravens, he flew up to this tree when I backed up to see him better.

Sitting here this morning after letting the dogs out for a run, I heard the two of them barking like mad. I ran out to see what the commotion was only to see them having, what they would think, fun with our local moose. Mom moose kept charging Eli, our Newfoundland mix, but it didn’t seem to faze him in the least. I had to order the two of them in the house, took a bit of persuasion with the offer of treats.

Not really a whole heck of a lot going on today, so I thought I’d snap a shot of the Sun at noon, just to show how low it really is on the horizon. Only 4 more days and we’ll be on the up swing for more daylight. It’s really not bad, you just have to get out during the time the sun is up.

Our neighborhood moose came through again today. And of course Eli had to bark and howl at her. This was after he came home with a very large bone, well, really a leg, to chew on. No idea where he found it.

Anyway, here are a few photos from today around the house.
